Background:

Continuously improving the way we deliver DE services requires investing in, and maintaining resources in our Quality Management Systems. Our program of process audits across the province enables us to enhance levels of service consistency and implement on-going improvements.

Principle Role:

Reporting to the QA Performance Manager we are looking for a professional and highly motivated individual for the full-time, non-bargaining unit 6 month term position of Internal Auditor.

The role involves a significant amount of travel and over-night stays; over 70% of the time will be sent visiting centres based on pre-determined schedules.  The geographical audit scope is the entire province however the audit schedule is based on business risks and impacts therefore the vast majority of audits will be in and around the GTA.  In addition to internal audits in support of our ISO 9001 certification, the position involves participation in Performance Improvement Team (PIT) visits and subject-specific desktop audits.

Internal audits will be ‘process based’ i.e. will follow transaction flows from beginning to end as opposed pure compliance (“spot”) checking. In addition to Operational processes, Support Office activities will also be audited.

Full training for the role will be provided including the mandatory attendance and successful completion of an International Standards Organisation (ISO) approved Internal Auditor training course.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Internal auditing is a multidisciplinary profession requiring auditors to have a wide variety of skills. The following attributes are paramount:

  • Communication Skills: The majority of audit time is spent working with people. Accordingly, internal auditors must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • A high standard of literacy: The auditor will prepare a report at the conclusion of each audit that provides constructive recommendations to assist in the process of continuous improvement.
  • Analytical and critical thinking: The ability to understand what the process under review aims to achieve and to follow the process flow. Determine both whether the aims are being met and if there are opportunities for improvement.
  • Data mining and analytics: Collect objective data from various sources during the audit and analyze them to form objective and substantiated conclusions.
  • Risk management: Recognize and report on occurrences that lead to non-compliance or that may jeopardize Serco’s business or reputation.
  • Personal attributes: Open-minded - good listener - non confrontational - professional. Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, prioritize work load, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality and work well with all levels of management, the client and the public.

  • Knowledge of MTO policy relating to DE service delivery.
