Assistant Platoon Chief

Permanent Full-Time

Bargaining Unit Position - $37.79 per hour

 

Reporting to:        Platoon Chief

 

Purpose of the Job:

  • Plan, organize and direct front-line employees on daily/weekly activities in the Platoon to meet Section service delivery objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with all Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures, including but not limited to Code of Conduct and Ethics, Serco Management System, PDR’s, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the operations including occupational health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, as well as quality.

     

    Position Overview:

  • Supervises and participates in emergency response activities to life or property threatening incidents within DND interests.

  • Supervises/conducts scheduled inspection, testing and maintenance of fire vehicles and equipment.

  • Supervises, conducts and participates in fire prevention and fire fighter training programs.

  • Supervises and conducts the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire service vehicles, systems and equipment.

  • Act as Platoon Chief when required.

  • Conducts fire engineering training programs.

  • Direct subordinate employees in performance of section tasks and responsibilities.

  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.

  • Other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years’ experience as a fire fighter

  • 6A or fire officer Level 1 in accordance with NFPA 1021, and NFPA 1041 Level I

  • Secondary education

  • Comprehensive knowledge of emergency response fire apparatus and associated equipment

  • Detailed knowledge of fire behaviour and the strategy, tactics, and principles of fire combat

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Must pass annual Firefighter medical and participate in an annual physical fitness test.

  • Secondary education.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of emergency response fire apparatus and associated equipment.

  • Possession of a valid Class 3 NL Driver’s license with 9 air brake endorsement.

  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.

  • Ability to effectively provide command and control of a platoon of fire fighters under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to effectively make correct decisions using good judgement and using initiative in implementing the decisions in both routine and emergency situations.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance is required. May be required to upgrade to Secret Level II (dependent upon customer’s security requirements).

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.
